Maitland Hospital Solar
Structural engineering for the 1.16MW solar PV system installed on the northern carpark roof of the new $470 million Maitland Hospital, delivered in partnership with Downer. Over 2,500 photovoltaic panels supported on a structural system certified by RECOR.

Solar on the carpark roof of a flagship NSW hospital
Maitland Hospital is one of the largest health infrastructure projects in NSW. The solar component placed more than 2,500 photovoltaic panels on the roof of the northern carpark as part of a 1.16-megawatt system, contributing to the hospital's operating energy mix from day one.
RECOR partnered with Downer to deliver the structural engineering for the panel array. Our role was to provide details of the most effective racking layout and fixings, and to certify the structural adequacy of the panel support system across the carpark roof.
Certification that holds up to hospital-grade scrutiny
Hospital infrastructure carries a different compliance bar than commercial solar work. The certification package had to satisfy both the structural design standards for the carpark roof and the operational continuity requirements of an active health facility under construction nearby.
Holding the structural design and certification under one engineering team simplified the approval pathway for Downer and gave the hospital operator confidence in the system's long-term performance.
